100 Layer Cake

And no, we don't mean literally a 100 layer cake = ) Brides, if you have not discovered this unique and informative website, you're missing out! 100 Layer Cake is a site dedicated to DIY projects, inspiration, vendor portfolios and an amazing marketplace filled with unique and sometimes one-of-a-kind items for sale. These items have been used by previous brides who just don't know what else to do with them. You can also post your wedding items to sell on the site as well! Everything from apothecary jars to antique mirrors can be found among its listings.

100layercake.com

The site's vendor guide is a wonderful, resourceful tool for any bride looking for a planner all across the country. It features portfolios for each vendor in all related categories of wedding/event planning.

By far, out most favorite feature of the site is definitely the marketplace. If you're looking for inexpensive or just cheaper alternatives to buying all brand new wedding decor, this it the place to look. The marketplace is updated frequently and even features gowns and bridesmaids dresses. Check out this unique collection of vintage mirrors!

**We love unique and inexpensive finds! If you know of other great websites or stores to find creative wedding decor, share it with other brides here!

DON'T DIY Friday: Cake Wrecks!

We've heard this many times over. You have a sweet Aunt who just absolutely loves baking and has been making you cakes all throughout your childhood. While the idea of allowing your sweet Aunt to make this beautiful staple to your wedding day sounds sentimental and cost efficient, let's think about how you'd like your cake to look and if your sweet Aunt can deliver. Don't forget, your cake will be photographed countless times throughout the day!

By all means, if you've seen the work of anyone who you contract to bake and decorate your wedding cake and you trust that the results will be beautiful,  go for it. But let these pictures be a reminder of the "what if" scenarios should you choose to hire a non-professional or just let a sweet and generous family member take on the task.

♫ Unforgettable...♫

Unforgettable...

 That's what you are...

Unforgettable!
Beyond subpar!!

Like a song of Love, that CLINGS to me...
How the thought of you does things to me..

Never before...has something been mooore...
Unforgettable!!

In every way...

And forever mooore....
They'll rue the day!

That's why darling..
It's incredible..

That a wreck...

So unforgettable...

Could also be so...
...dang inedible toooo!!!

♫ Apologies to Nat King Cole = ) ♫

We encourage you to truly research whoever you choose to make your wedding cake, as the results could be devastating.
Virginia Beach Brides-We have incredibly talented bakers in the area! Who have you decided to use to make your beautiful wedding cake? We want to hear all about 'em!

DIY Friday: The Pillow Alternative

We're all familiar with the traditional pillow that is used to present the wedding rings during the ceremony. Ring bearers used to actually hold the rings on these pillows, however many learned quickly that young ring bearers can not always be trusted to keep track of them. Nowadays, fake rings are actually placed on the pillows and the tradition is still carried on (with the real rings being secured with either the best man or maid of honor). Ever thought of switching out the old pillow for something new, crafty and more personable? Today's post is all about DIY and personable pillow alternatives you can use to compliment your special day( it will also make for beautiful pictures as well!)

Personalized Porcelain Dish

Palomas Nest
These personalized porcelain dishes can serve as a special alternative to the classic pillow and can also be cherished in your home for years to come.

Nautilus Shell
Silver Beads and Clay
This alternative is perfect for any beach wedding and is truly beautiful in its own way.

Tuffed Moss

Once Wed

If your wedding is the essence of rustic/chic, then this pillow is perfect for you! Find out how to make this gorgeous pillow HERE

 Wedding Ring Nest with Birds

La Belle Bride
This cute pillow alternative is super easy to make and very affordable to make as well! We love the nest idea and truly see the creativity within this project. How cute will your ring bearer look walking down the aisle with one of these?!

Coconut Ring Bowl

Wedding Bee
We adore this coconut ring bowl! For a tropical themed/beach themed wedding, this alternative is fun and creative.

Harvest Wedding Pumpkin

Esty
What a perfect detail to incorporate into your fall wedding ceremony!

Etsy
By far our favorite pillow alternative! What a fun way to add the extra cute factor to your already adorable ring bearer. This is perfect if you plan on securing the actual rings with your best man or maid of honor, but still want to include a ring bearer in your ceremony. We love the flag, which can also be personalized with your initials on the reverse side. How cute!

Are you planning on using a creative alternative to the traditional ring pillow? We want to hear all about it!
