It's the Simple Things: Beauty on a Budget

Creativity within the wedding world is truly endless. There are so many options to choose from when it comes to flowers, colors and styles. Arrangements have taken new heights (literally) and have become a work of art in themselves. While our focus shifts to grand orchids and peonies galore, it's easy to lose sight of the simple beauty within "filler" flowers, more specifically baby's breath.

Baby's breath is a delicate and dainty little flower often found complimenting a gorgeous arrangement of red roses. These little buds bring character to any vintage inspired wedding and a whimsical effect to any tablescape. Costing just pennies a bunch, we adore baby's breath in the budget department and we'll let the following photos explain why we love them just for their delicate beauty:

The Flower 411

For many brides, choosing flowers may seem like the most exciting and interesting part of the entire wedding planning process. Bridal magazines often feature gorgeous, lush bridal bouquets of exotic flowers. The important thing to remember, brides, is that along with beauty and price, sustainability and practicality are important characteristics to keep in mind when choosing flowers for your wedding.

Sustainability

What exactly does this mean? Flowers come in all shapes, sizes, colors and strengths, yes, strengths. Part of the beauty for some flowers is their delicate structures. Considering the strength and structure of a particular flower is important when deciding whether or not to include it in your bouquet or any floral arrangement. The last thing you want is a wilting, or even worse, broken or destroyed bouquet of flowers (and the ceremony may not have even started yet!) Orchids are a great example of fragile flowers who, while very beautiful in a bouquet, may not make it through the night. Flowers like calla lilies and roses are strong and durable and will most definitely last.

Fragrance

Fragrance of a particular flower is also extremely important when choosing your wedding flowers. A person's sense of smell often times plays a role in their opinions and decision making. While you may think Gardenias smell absolutely wonderful in a small arrangement, it's fragrance may be too powerful or overwhelming when used throughout centerpieces and bouquets. In all honesty, it is possible to become sick from an overpowering scent, and you don't want your guests to fall victim to that.

Price

Price is always at the top of the priority list when it comes to designing bouquets. One simple tip- stick to seasonal flowers. There are so many beautiful blooms throughout every season that you are sure to find a handful that will compliment your bouquet. Especially if your wedding coincides with the current season, choosing seasonal flowers will make for a more cohesive design. Not sure what flowers are in season when? Ask your florist when consulting design options with them or you can look here!

Couture Bridal Bouquets

A bridal bouquet is such a staple of any wedding. It should reflect the bride's personality and match the overall theme of the day. These days, brides are looking for alternatives to make every aspect of their day personalized and unexpected, not to mention saving money!

We absolutely love flowers! Who doesn't? But let's be honest, your bridal bouquet is something you'll want to save and cherish for years to come. Flowers are quick to dry up and require a lot of care and upkeep. Wouldn't it be nice to have a fantastic bouquet that will last a lifetime? We've recently fallen in love with the creative works of Emplume. Their vision for a fashion-forward, unique alternative to standard bouquets is impressive and a wonderful detail for any bride's must have list.

Everything from bouquets, garters and ring pillows are made from the finest materials and real preserved flowers and foliage. Feathers and sparkly gems are used throughout the bouquets for a whimsical and chic look. We just can't get enough of these bouquets!

History in the Making: The Royal Wedding

www.aol.com

The day has come! Prince William and, now, Princess Kate are man and wife and their wedding day could not have been more perfect! From the start of the ceremony affairs and processional of honorable guests, the anticipation for the arrival of the bride grew with intensity. All were anxious to see the mysterious gown and catch a glimpse of history truly in the making.

There were many aspects of today's royal wedding that stood out for many of us, whether it be Princess Kate's unforgettable ride to Westminster Abbey with her father, or her 4 minute walk down the Abbey's aisle. The whole day just seemed magical and truly was the epitome of elegance. Her dress, designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen was tasteful yet flattering. Her poise and subtleness is that of a future Queen. Her small bouquet, although understated but manageable, was meaningful containing Lily of the Valley, Stephanotis blossoms and a sprig of Myrtle for good luck (a royal tradition). And her tiara, an 18th birthday present of Queen Elizabeth's, was classic and regal.

 Details from the Day:
    1. Rumor has it that Princess Kate wore flats for her 4 minute walk down the aisle. While most brides do this for the reception, Princess Kate made a wise decision for a very long and memorable walk.
    2. "You may not kiss the Bride"? Yes, Prince William and Princess Kate did not share a first kiss as man and wife within the walls of Westminster Abbey as the church is hallowed ground and a kiss is serious business for royalty. A kiss must be done tastefully and at the most appropriate times.
    3. William did not watch his Bride come down the aisle like most grooms do. This tradition fits rather appropriately for the couple as they represent an even and fair marriage. We know Princess Kate did not vow to "obey" William, like Diana, and a good majority of their relationship ideologies were apparent throughout the ceremony. William would not see his Bride until she was at his side, very representative of their outlook on marriage.
     4. Diana was remembered and very much apart of the day's events whether it was through the engagement ring, special hymns performed during the ceremony, it was even noted that just before Princess Kate entered Westminster Abbey a burst of sunlight broke through the overcast skies, as if to signify Diana's presence.

There is no doubt that today's event will forever be remembered in history. And many that watched this wedding, young and old, will reminisce for years to come.

Of all of today's memorable events, we want to hear your favorite! Likes, dislike, tell us about it! Be detailed as your comments will help create an inspiration board reflecting the royal wedding that future brides might use to create their dream day! = )

Spring Has Sprung!

Spring is finally upon us and so begins the start of the wedding season! Spring is such a wonderful time of the year to plan a wedding. With various, beautiful flowers in season and favorable temperatures, there's no denying the genuine beauty that this season has to offer!

In past years, brides have been known to incorporate the traditional pastel colors into their wedding's theme. With each wedding season that passes, bride's are becoming more bold and creative with their color schemes. Hot pinks and turquoise, bright yellow and lime green are securing their place in a lineup of popular and preppy accents to any spring wedding.

If you're inspired by the natural beauty of this season and dream of having a spring wedding, there are a few details to consider:
  1.  Ceremony/Reception Location: If you are planning on having your ceremony or reception in an outside setting, remember the saying "April showers bring May flowers..". The weather during spring months can be unpredictable. Have a back-up plan. There's nothing more comforting than knowing your wedding day is safe from Mother Nature's fury no matter what! Take the time to research alternatives for your wedding location if inclement weather should occur.
  2. Transportation: We all remember how memorable it was to gather our friends together, find the perfect dress and arrive in style at our high school's Prom. And it was indeed in the Spring. If you plan on using special forms of transportation on your wedding day, such as limos or coach buses, be mindful of Prom season and reserve your vehicle early!
  3. Flowers: There are many beautiful flowers that come into season during the Spring months like Lilies, Roses, Tulips, and Gerbera Daisies. Incorporating these seasonal flowers into your centerpieces and bouquets will not only tie in the springtime theme, it will also save you money! Seasonal flowers are, logically, easier to come by and in greater quantities.
**Are you planning a Spring wedding? If so, what color palette are you using?

The inspiration board below captures the fun and colorful feel of a spring wedding and was inspired by one of our current brides. We love her use of lilies and a pairing of bright yellow and malibu blue! So beautiful!
